On March 8th we celebrate International Women's Day both to honor the women's suffrage movement and to acknowledge existing gender inequality across the globe.
Inequality is not just a legal phenomenon. Open misogyny and unconscious bias are harmful aspects of our culture that routinely affect women in all parts of the world. We experience it every single day in some way or another -- whether it crops up in our own lives among our family or friends or whether it appears in the public space. We hope that by writing about these issues we can spotlight this kind of every day sexism. We hope to add our voice to the growing chorus in support of women.
Our goal is to understand the social, cultural, political and economic forces that undermine gender equality. We want to celebrate women, not just once a year, but as often as we possibly can.
